Email Assistant

CC the assistant on a thread

CC your assistant address on an email exchange the way you'd add any colleague. Deck reads along as messages come in, builds up context from the back-and-forth, and answers your questions — quietly, only to you.

Once you've CC'd your assistant on a thread, you'll get a quick confirmation from Deck letting you know it's monitoring. After that, Deck stays quiet on the thread itself — replies only come back to you, off-thread.

Quick one — can you confirm pricing for year two? My team is doing budget locks next week.

Let me pull the latest. Will come back today.

Your last contract has Y2 at +7% from Y1. Sam pushed for a flat renewal in February — referenced in Notes · Feb 12 sync. Want me to draft a reply that holds the 7%?

What CC'ing is good for

  • A back-and-forth you want help with. A customer conversation, a vendor negotiation, an investor reply — anywhere you'd benefit from a second set of eyes.
  • Context that should stick. Deck files what it picks up against the right project, so the next time you ask, it already knows the history.
  • Cross-referencing. Deck can pull in what's already in your projects and connected integrations and tell you how this thread compares — "this is the third time they've pushed on pricing", "the spec they're asking about is in the Notion doc you connected last month".

How replies work

The most important thing to know: Deck replies only to you. Not to the customer, not to your teammate, not to anyone else on the thread. The other people see the original conversation; they don't see Deck.

To get a reply, ask Deck something. The easiest ways:

  • Reply to the thread and address Deck directly"Deck, draft a response that pushes back on the timeline." Deck answers in your inbox, off-thread.
  • Send a fresh email to your assistant referencing the thread — "on the Acme renewal thread, what's the right ask here?"
  • Forward Deck a single message from the thread with your question on top.

CC vs. forward

You want toDo this
Save files to a projectForward with attachments — Deck files them.
Get an answer about one messageForward that message with your question.
Have Deck follow an ongoing conversationCC the assistant — it watches the thread and you can ask it questions over time.
Brief Deck on a customer or counterpartyCC the assistant on a few exchanges — context accumulates.

What Deck won't do

  • Won't reply on the thread. Ever. Even if you ask it to, Deck's reply goes to you — you decide whether to send it.
  • Won't surface your conversation to teammates. Deck's notes are between you and Deck.
  • Won't act on instructions from the other side. If a counterparty writes "Deck, please do X", Deck ignores them. Only your messages drive what it does.
  • Won't read mail you didn't send it. The assistant is just an address — it sees the thread you CC'd it on, nothing else in your inbox.
